About me
Hi, I’m Lennie! I’m a PhD student at the University of Cambridge supervised by Sergio Bacallado. My master’s degree specialised in probability and theoretical statistics, but since then my research has transitioned from applied stats and machine learning through to AI Safety.
I am convinced of both the transformative opportunities and catastrophic risks presented by the next generation of AI systems. I am working to increase the potential for upside and decrease the potential for downside.
I usually work from Meridian office, from which I help with initiatives by Cambridge AI Safety Hub (CAISH) and Geodesic Research.
I am currently working on control and scalable oversight.
In a previous life, my PhD research focussed on Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA), a dimension reduction technique for multi-view data. I think this method is under-utilised. I have developed a broad understanding of the technique, and some novel insights; let me know if you would like to use CCA in your work - I would be more than happy to chat.
Outside of work, my main past-time is currently singing. Most recently, I sang baritone with Cambridge University Schola Cantorum under Graham Walker. I also enjoy and practice many mainstream (and less mainstream) sports, dabble in languages, and grow vegetables. To get in touch, email is probably best: substitute my CRSID ww347 into [crsid@cam.ac.uk].
